Reader’s Question:

I’m looking to purchase a health insurance policy here in New York in the near future. What do I need to know about health insurance?

Milton

NYC

Milton, to give you an overview of what health insurance, it is mainly just another type of insurance covering hospital or medical expenses. Say, you were diagnosed with something life-threatening, like a stroke. A bypass operation was found out to be needed. It is unfortunate that after the surgery, therapy and other expenses will still hound you. It is really financially backbreaking to undergo a medical procedure such as a bypass operation without sufficient health care plans. Paying for a medical operation such as that will literally wipe out your fortune in a few months’ time.

You have to remember that this type of insurance product has a high decline rate. According to a study, around thirteen percent of applicants were denied to get a comprehensive medical health insurance in 2004. What does this mean? It means that while you are young, healthy and capable of paying for a health insurance, then you should do so. Who knows, a year or 5 years from now, you may be one of those guys included in the thirteen percent tally of declined applicants deemed as very risky. Not only that, but having a health care plan actually would make you a healthier person as you will be more inclined to go for check-ups.

Milton, if I may add also, non-smokers are given the privilege of having smaller premiums. To ask for quotations, please contact your health insurance agent in New York.

Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance

In Illinois, all of those with aching backs and hurting muscles are about to get a big break. The Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance in Illinois is going to start covering chiropractic care, an area of medicine that many people want and need, but that most health insurance providers won’t touch because they deem it to be something elective, or not medically necessary. Those who have to deal with aches and pains everyday, and for whom pain pills aren’t enough or aren’t acceptable, they are very necessary, and Blue Cross has come to the light.

The program is called CAM, which stands for complementary and alternative medicine, and it is slated to start on the first of January. The problem that many consumers might find with it is that it is not an actual part of the coverage of their health insurance plan. Rather, it is separate, set up as a discount health insurance card. This does make things easier, as it means claims and referrals won’t be necessary like they usually are, though.

While the actual Blue Cross discount card is cheaper to begin with, it costs more than your usual health care plan if you have to end up using it. You pay the chiropractor or the practitioner of whatever type of alternative treatment you are getting, and the card is only responsible for giving you a discount. While it is a big discount, at twenty five percent, that is only the case if you work within the network that Blue Cross has chosen.

More and more people are becoming interested in alternative forms of health care, and Blue Cross is just the first health insurance company to have buckled under the weight of demands for coverage for this type of treatment. For those who cannot afford any other kind of health insurance, it might be a good start on getting some medical care, considering the lower costs.

Blue Cross is putting itself forward to help current and potential customers understand the program by providing them with a website called Healthy Roads. The website is still in its early stages, but it contains a load of information about different types of alternative health care. It also has a directory of alternative care providers who are part of Blue Cross’s program, and a bunch of products that might appeal to people interested in alternative health care. It’s a great source of information, even for those who do not have a Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance plan.

After you apply for KCHIP Lexington health insurance

There are several offices in Lexington for health insurance by KCHIP, and once you have dropped off your application to insure your child with KCHIP, then there will be a process that will be followed. These offices tend to be busy, so if you want to see a case worker that same day, you should either go early and plan on waiting, or just drop off your application and expect a call from your case worker. Once you get called in or called back by the case worker, they will ask you a number of questions in order to determine whether or not your child is eligible for KCHIP and, if so, then for what kind.

While you are in the office with the case worker, you will also be able to ask questions and request that he or she provide you with information about the program. It is now that is the best time to find out as much as you can about the child health care plan that your kid will be provided with, because while there are many health insurance companies that have open call lines for you to ring up and ask questions about your plan, it’s not so easy when you are getting your insurance from the government, so you should take advantage for this opportunity for clarification.

If the application or the interview do not satisfy, that doesn’t mean that your child will not be able to qualify for KCHIP. The case worker who gives you the interview is going to request that you bring back extra information so that they can determine your case. This can be frustrating, but just bear with it. If you don’t have the extra information back within ten days, then your kid won’t be able to get KCHIP, so make sure you turn it in on time.
