Reader question:

I live in Atlanta and I made a Georgia health insurance claim but my medical health isnurance company denied it for no reason. What do I do?

Millie

I’m glad you asked.

One of the most frustrating things to encounter when you are involved in a medical health insurance claim battle is a denial, especially when it is for health care that you might have really needed. This can cause a lot of problems, both for your finances and for your health. There may be may reasons that you were denied, from improper understanding of your medical health insurance policy to going out of your health coverage network. If it is one of the above, you may have a chance at an appeal, but likely you will just have to put up with it.

If your Georgia health insurance company really has wronged you, though, and you are sure of it, you can take things to a higher level. Rather than staying and feeling depressed that your medical health insurance claim will not be covered, you can file a complaint with the Georgia Department of Insurance. The Georgia DoI deals with these kinds of things and will investigate the health insurance company you complain about.

Georgia health insurance for children

Reader question:

I need Georgia health insurance for my three year old daughter. Is this available in my state?

Amber

Great question.

All states, of course, have Medicaid, which is a federal program, but naturally Medicaid does not cover everybody who needs health insurance. Although the income requirements for it are a little more loose than for other welfare programs, there are many people who make too much to qualify, but at the same time make too little to get a family health insurance plan with their own money. These people are locked in a dilemma, because they need to get child health insurance for their kids, as well as for themselves.

Georgia health insurance offers the PeachCare program for child health insurance to cover those kids whose parents make too much to be able to get Medicaid. This comes with coverage as extensive as that of Medicaid itself, from things like hospital stays and emergency room visits, to things like prescriptions and eyeglasses and dental appointments. It provides basically everything you need to protect your child’s health throughout his or her lifetime with this Georgia health insurance plan.

It isn’t free, though, but it is a whole lot cheaper than normal child health insurance. Every month there is a cost of about ten to thirty five dollars for each child over the age of five. There is a maximum cost of seventy dollars per month, per family, though, so if you have five children over five you won’t be paying that total. To find out more about this kind of Georgia health insurance, you can go to the state’s PeachCare website for more information.

One of the drawbacks is that, unlike most health insurance plans, which will cover a child until he or she has completed college, PeachCare ends once the child reaches the age of nineteen, whether they are still going to school or not.

Georgia health insurance for cancer patients

Reader question:

If I am diagnosed with cancer, what are my chances of getting medical health insurance in Georgia?

Abraham

Fairly good, I’d say.

Naturally, it would depend a lot on whether or not you were insured when you were diagnosed with the cancer. The main thing that medical health insurance companies have a problem with are pre-existing conditions. If you’re already under their coverage when you’re diagnosed, there’s not very much you can do. This is why it’s extremely important to get health insurance before something major happens concerning your health, because it will make it very difficult to get health insurance later, be it Georgia health insurance or any other kind. It’s possible, sure, but it’s a big hassle.

Like in the rest of the United States, Georgia health insurance plans aren’t all-covering, and there are plenty of uninsured within the state. There are some ways that the state gives to people to help them acquire whatever medical treatment that they may need.

Georgia health insurance, like insurance everywhere else, is costly, and income requirements for receiving medical health insurance from the state are set low. This leaves a lot of people who fall in the middle, both unable to afford private health insurance, and unable to qualify for state provided health insurance. Whatever they can or cannot afford, things like cancer screenings and treatments are far beyond what their pocketbook can reach.

Some of this problem is diminished by the help from the Georgia Cancer Coalition. It is not a form of Georgia health insurance, but it helps women who are not able to afford Georgia health insurance nor qualify for help. They have to be at most 200% of the poverty level, and they are provided with breast exams and cervical cancer screenings. If diagnosed, they are helped to find further treatment and are able to get it for a lower price through the Georgia Cancer Coalition.
